On Friday, September 11, Oosterpark will set the stage for a special edition of Opening Night. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra will kick off its new concert season with a free open-air performance. It's a unique opportunity to experience one of the world's leading orchestras in the heart of Amsterdam East. Find more information about the programme at de website van het Concertgebouw.
The evening begins with a pre-program. From 18:45 to 19:30, talented young musicians from Amsterdam and beyond will meet at the intersection of classical music, jazz, and big band. The Jazz Focus Big Band from Amsterdam East, led by Lorenzo Mignacca, and the NJSO Chamber Orchestra, led by Carel den Hartog, join forces with alumni of Concertgebouworkest Young. Expect music by Borodin, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Gershwin, and Dvořák, among others.
From 20:15 the Concertgebouworkest, under the direction of conductor Han-Na Chang, will take the stage with a festive program. Featuring, among others, famous overtures by Wagner, Rossini, and Glinka, and irresistible pieces from Bizet's opera Carmen.
Wine lovers will also be delighted.
