On Sunday, September 28, Oosterpark once again came alive in the spirit of togetherness during the Amsterdam East Peace Meal. With perfect late-summer weather, local residents, musicians, storytellers, and visitors of all ages came together around the Music Pavilion.
The atmosphere was warm and friendly: long tables brimming with homemade dishes formed a vibrant buffet of global flavors. Everyone was welcome to join, share, and meet new people. Eating together brought everyone closer, in both a literal and figurative sense.
The program offered a rich mix of culture and inspiration. There were beautiful musical performances, engaging stories, and inspiring contributions from, among others, Sufi dancers. The various speeches captured the essence of the afternoon: that peace and change begin with encounter and connection within one’s own neighborhood.
Attendance was high—the park buzzed with energy and curiosity. Once again, the Peace Meal demonstrated the power of a simple idea: eating, listening, and sharing together. The initiative connects with the broader movement of Global Picnic Amsterdam, which now also has international branches
In short: a festive, meaningful afternoon that left everyone wanting more. The Peace Meal has not only become a tradition in Amsterdam Oost, but also stands as living proof that real change begins with encounters between neighbors.
