On Saturday, June 1, Oosterpark was fully dedicated to connection, culture, and community spirit during Oosterpark day 2025 – a festive initiative by Amsterdam East Districtin co-production with RootsThe park was alive with activities, gatherings, and performances, showcasing the vibrant diversity of Amsterdam Oost.

The day was made even more special by two festive and meaningful openings:
The renovated: Nationaal Monument Slavernijverleden (National Slavery Monument) – which provides space for reflection and awareness around the shared history of slavery. This site was officially opened by executive Jan-Bert Vroege on behalf of Amsterdam East District, together with Wendeline Flores, board member of NiNsee. The unveiling was accompanied by spoken word from artist NØËL.
Also, the inauguration of Parkhart – the new public restrooms in the park – was officially opened by Jan-Bert VroegeParkhart is a practical and symbolic step towards a more welcoming and inclusive Oosterpark.

In addition to these highlights, the program offered a rich array of cultural performances, dance, sports, workshops, and activities for children. From live music and dance shows to neighborhood stalls and information booths—there was something for everyone to enjoy. The atmosphere was open, welcoming, and festive.

Thanks to the efforts of local creators, neighborhood organizations, volunteers, and partners, Oosterpark Day became a day to be proud of. It was not only a celebration of the community, but also a moment of recognition, reflection, and joint efforts toward building an inclusive future.

It was a successful edition of the very first Oosterpark Day—we hope that Oosterpark Day will grow into an annual tradition where we can celebrate the beating heart of Amsterdam East together.
